Barrett Hayton emerged as a top prospect in the 2018 NHL Draft after posting a solid season with the Soo Greyhounds during the 2017-2018 OHL season.
The young center put up 21 goals and 39 assists for 60 points in 63 games for the Soo. He added another 21 points in 24 playoff games as the Greyhounds fought their way to Game 6 of the OHL Finals.
During Hayton’s draft eligible season, he was still often ranked as a mid first round prospect. ISS had him ranked at 15th overall. He was ultimately selected 5th overall by Arizona Coyotes GM John Chayka. The pick was a bit of a surprise at the time, but his play across the next years seemed to justify Chayka’s selection.
In 2018-2019, Hayton scored 66 points in just 39 games for the Soo while serving as captain. The following season he made his NHL debut for Arizona and captained Canada to the World Junior Championship.
Since the end of 2019, Hayton has played just over 100 games across two and a half seasons. Injuries and shortened seasons due to the COVID-19 outbreak have derailed his growth. It wasn’t until the back half of the 2021-2022 season that Hayton began to establish himself as a regular in the Coyotes lineup, scoring 10 goals in 60 games.
This white set jersey was oddly listed on the Soo Greyhound’s website. It was listed as a game-issued jersey, but with the standard game used price for Hayton’s jerseys. The pictures (and the year) indicated it was game worn, so I took the chance and purchased it.
Lo and behold, it has a very nice amount of wear despite arriving with an LOA that states it is game issued.
The right sleeve has some pulls and snags and a few board burns and board burn holes in the elbow. The right sleeve numbers have a stick mark between them that extends into the #7. The left sleeve has several burns and a burn hole or two, as well as small cuts and some stick marks. The left sleeve number has a huge burn hole that begins below the #7 and extends out about 3 inches.
The front has multiple marks in the body and in the right shoulder. The crest has solid wash wear, and the captain’s “C” is sewn on the left breast/collarbone area. The Greyhounds team store tag is still attached to the neck of the jersey.
The back of the jersey has a few scattered stick/puck marks and loose threads. There is a Catstitch Authentic Sweater Program tag in the back hem.
