Clayton Keller was set to wear this Arizona Coyotes/Arizona Diamondbacks warmup jersey on March 12, 2020 for “Dbacks Night”. Then COVID-19 happened, and that March game was the first Yotes game cancelled due to the epidemic.
Instead, these jerseys were auctioned at the end of March and were never worn on the ice.
They aren’t quite as eye-catching as the 2019 Dbacks Kachina version, but they are dead on for bridging the baseball to hockey aesthetic.
Where the 2019 version was bright and colorful, accentuating the early days of the Arizona Diamondbacks with purple and teal, the 2020 version was inspired by the colors worn by the club since 2006.
The YOTES arced across the front is an interesting new direction for a crest for these warmups. I’ll be honest, I dig it and wouldn’t mind to pick up a player t-shirt that was designed similarly.
The crest and back numbers are triple layered twill (black/red/white), and the nameplate and numbers are double layered (black/red).
For my taste, these don’t quite reach the highs of the iconic design from 2019, but this one is still a well above average design when you consider all of the warmup designs utilized throughout the league in recent years.
Keller might not have actually worn it, but it sure looks great. It helps that it’s a nicely fitting size 52.
