Connor McMichael wore this black set game worn jersey for the London Knights after being traded there from the Hamilton Bulldogs halfway through the 2017-2018 OHL season. It was his rookie year in the Ontario Hockey League, and he skated in 28 games for the Knights scoring 3 goals and 3 assists.
McMichael went on to become a star for the Knights, posting great seasons back-to-back and found himself drafted 25th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2019 NHL Draft.
He’s seeing his first sustained NHL action this year and excelling with it.
He has just 2 goals and 4 assists in 16 games, but his underlying numbers suggest that he could become quite a steal at 25th overall.
McMichael’s jersey is fairly devoid of wear.
The left sleeve has the faintest of burns and one other burn mark, but any stick or pucks are pretty well hidden by the dark jersey. The right sleeve features the Memorial Cup 100th Anniversary patch which was worn throughout the 2017-2018 season by all CHL clubs.
There are some loose threads throughout the jersey and decent wash wear on the numbers.
The inside neck of this sweater has a ton of pilling which does make me wonder if might have been recycled for McMichael at some point. The young forward only played 28 games that season, and less than half of them would have been in this sweater so it’s a surprising amount of pilling.
There is also some sign of an older nameplate possibly being removed. The jersey was sold by CHL Auctions originally.
Connor McMichael has progressed nicely through his junior career and into the NHL.
He dominated his last year in the OHL, and averaged over a point per game in the AHL.
The scoring isn’t quite there yet with the Caps, but it doesn’t seem far fetched to believe he will be a dynamic part of the Capitals top six as early as next season.
