Demetrios Koumontzis played in 142 career games for the Arizona State Sun Devils, ranking him second all-time in the program's history.
From his freshman year, Komo was a steady figure for ASU, being utilized across the lineup by head coach Greg Powers. He even took on a defensive role towards the end of the 2022-2023 season due to numerous injuries along the Sun Devils' blue-line.
Throughout his time in Tempe, Koumontzis netted 22 goals and contributed 45 assists. The former Jr. Coyotes alumni was named an alternate captain in his senior and graduate seasons with the Sun Devils.
Arizona State introduced their black alternate jerseys in December of 2018. At the time the black jerseys were the only alternate the school wore, however that would quickly change in the ensuing months.
They were worn sparingly in most seasons as the number of jerseys utilized by the program continued to increase.
The black alternates were worn in 18 games across four seasons. 2018-2019 (5 games), 2019-2020 (6 games), 2020-2021 (4 games), and 2021-2022 (3 games).
ASU issues just one jersey of each style to each player, so Koumontzis wore this in all four seasons the set was initially active. The black alternates were brought back in 2023-2024 alongside the gold heritage and gray desert storm jerseys, but Koumontzis was graduated by that point.
Komo’s jersey has the most wear that I have seen on one of these Black Set gamers.
The sleeves show the majority of the wear with both exhibiting several board burns, repairs, an unrepaired hole, and several stick marks/stick burns that look like white paint transfer.
On the back of Koumontzis’s sweater is a very nice repair of the first “O” in the nameplate. Photos of Komo in this sweater from the COVID season and the season after are pretty much non-existent, however, so the only match is to wear in the left sleeve.
