Gage Quinney is a Las Vegas native who happens to also be the first true “Vegas born” player to play in the NHL for the Golden Knights.
He averaged almost a point per game in the Henderson Silver Knights’ inaugural season, and he added a bit of history as well.
On March 5th, 2021 against the Colorado Eagles, Quinney scored the first hat trick in Silver Knights history. The hat trick included a shorthanded goal and an empty netter, and the jersey is photomatched to the celebration after the shortie.
The Henderson Silver Knights wore their white jerseys in 22 games in the regular season in 2020-2021. They also wore their silver jerseys in 17 regular season games and 5 postseason games, giving the sets a nice 22/22 split. It is unclear if multiple sets were worn, but it seems unlikely for most players given the limited number of games played that season.
Quinney’s jersey has moderate wear after being worn in 9 of those games. The jersey is photomatched to 6 different games and he scored 4 goals and 2 assists while wearing it.
The right sleeve has two or three glue repairs where the silver elbow area meets the gold band. Closer to the wrist are two slash marks. The left sleeve is relatively clean with the exception of one large stick mark and a few other smaller scattered marks near the hem of the wrist.
The back of the sweater has a few faint marks in and around the right shoulder but is otherwise clean beyond Quinney’s signature on the numbers.
These Silver Knights jerseys look amazing up close. The gold twill material in the numbering and lettering looks amazing, and the silver fabric used in the sleeves and hem pops extremely well in person.
My search for a Quinney jersey relates back to his minor hockey career where he was a standout for the Jr. Coyotes 16U AAA team in 2011-2012, as well as spending a few games with the 18U AAA team. This puts Gage on the shortlist of players who were born in Arizona or who played here as youth who made it to the NHL.
That made him a must have for the Arizona collection.
Quinney's jerseys are actually quite hard to find, however.
With his ties to Vegas youth hockey and being a member of the Golden Knights organization, his jerseys sell quickly and often for a nice sum. They remain a hot commodity. I'm just happy to finally have one for my collection, and with some added history to boot.
