Joe Lappin wore this White Set game worn jersey for the Arizona State Sun Devils hockey program during his sophomore season in 2016-2017.
It was ASU’s second season as an NCAA Division 1 team, and their first season with a full D1 schedule.
Joe Lappin’s white set jersey has a few interesting features.
First off, the nameplate is still attached which is very uncommon for Arizona State hockey game worn jerseys. Secondly, the chest shows an Adidas patch clearly covering up the CCM branding that is on the front of the jersey.
This is a unique aspect, but also raises questions regarding whether Lappin’s jersey was recycled from 2015-2016 to 2016-2017. Based on the amount of wear — and the fact that they wore the exact same style with similar lettering — I would suspect that to be the case.
This jersey has quite a bit of wear for one of these ASU gamers.
The right sleeve is littered in stick marks and has a few burns and one unrepaired large cut on the wrist. There is also a cluster of repairs and loose threading and pilling in the sleeve number. The left sleeve is a bit cleaner with less marks, a smaller repair cluster, and a board burn or two. The left sleeve numbers also show a ton of pilling.
The front has a few marks including a very large segmented stick mark that runs from the left side the crest all the way into the band of maroon/white/gold that goes around the waist of the sweater. There is also the aforementioned Adidas patch covering the CCM logo at the collar.
The back shows a few scattered stick marks and a ton of pilling on the back numbers. The right shoulder has a huge unrepaired cut just below the right shoulder patch. As previously mentioned, this jersey maintains it’s nameplate which is a rarity for ASU gamers.
