Ryan Whitney wore this Navy Set 2 game worn jersey in his debut for the Edmonton Oilers on March 5th, 2010.
Whitney had just been traded to the Oilers from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Lubomir Visnovsky.
The defender was on the move for the second straight season but ultimately ended up staying in Edmonton for three more seasons.
Whit started out strong in Edmonton, scoring 11 points in 19 games at the end of the 2009-2010 season and adding another 27 points in 35 games to start 2010-2011. He suffered a season-ending injury in December and did not play again. From there, the injuries piled up and the writing was on the wall for Whitney’s career.
Post retirement, Ryan Whitney has become one of the most well-known media personalities in the NHL with his Spittin’ Chiclets podcast alongside Paul Bissonnette.
Edmonton wore their Navy Set 2 jerseys in 7 games from January 7th, 2010 through Aril 5th, 2010.
Ryan Whitney’s first game in Edmonton was March 5th, 2010 wearing this jersey, and he wore it in two more games on March 19th and April 5th.
Whit’s jersey has light wear, however the wear it does have is very noticeable from the very first game he plays in.
The most noticeable wear is on the right side of the Oilers crest in the form of a large stick mark. The left sleeve also has one larger and one smaller unrepaired burn holes in the elbow. Both bits of wear show up in photomatches.
One of the more interesting matches is to Whitney’s team photo for the Oilers shortly after the trade.
There is some other wear on the jersey in the form of light burns. It was acquired from a fellow collector.
Whitney’s jersey has both Edmonton and MeiGray tagging in the back hem.
