Easily the most battered gamer I’ve had in my collection, this Kamloops Blazers game worn jersey is also one of the centerpieces.
Shane Doan wore this gamer during the 1993-1994 season, his second year in junior hockey. It features the 10 year anniversary Memorial Cup patch and a hell of a lot of wear.
There is too much wear on this beauty to document each individual spot or mark.
The puck and stick marks are numerous and found throughout the jersey, including a huge one across the crest. The shoulders and sleeves also show numerous board burns both big and small.
The jersey has a plethora of repairs on the sleeves, collarbone area, and shoulders. Surprisingly, there are also several unrepaired cuts or tears in the jersey as well.
If there’s any downside to this Doan gamer, it is that it appears to share at least one thing in common with my Tom Fitzgerald inaugural game worn jersey…there just aren’t many, if any, pictures to be found on Shane Doan from that 1993-1994 season.
In fact, even after having multiple people help with the search I’ve been unable to find even one photo of Doan wearing the away blue jerseys beyond a simple headshot.
The lone photo of Doan in blue shows him wearing the wrong number; #29. It is unclear why he is wearing #29, as there are other photos of him in white wearing #19 during that season. Unfortunately, this seems to be all that exists of Doaner in the away jersey from 1993-1994.
The other issue working against finding a match is that Doaner was injured for a good portion of the 93-94 season. He played in just 52 total games and was unable to play in the playoffs. Much of the footage and photos that exist from that season are from the Blazers’ Memorial Cup run.
For now, the search for a match continues. Til then, I’ll just have to admire it without one.
