Cole Brady arrived at Arizona State with the expectation that he might be the next great Sun Devils goaltender.
The Ontario native was selected in the 5th round of the 2019 NHL Draft by the New Jersey Devils before he ever stepped foot on the Tempe campus.
The team was in transition thanks to the pandemic forcing them to adopt an all road, all Big Ten schedule in 2020-2021. ASU was seeking its next group of stars after the graduations of Brinson Pasichnuk and Joey Daccord and repeated injuries hampering Johnny Walker.
While there were flashes of brilliance, Brady never quite found the consistency that ASU was looking for and after a lack of playing time he decided to transfer to UMass after his sophomore season.
Brady made 13 appearances in his freshman year and just 12 in his sophomore season before departing.
Arizona State revealed their “storm” or “desert storm” gray jerseys in December 2019.
The jerseys were essentially a reverse version of the maroon away jerseys that been adopted in 2018. They did feature one unique addition in the form of a subtle nod the Arizona state flag on the upper part of the sleeve behind the sleeve numbers.
ASU wore these sweaters in 11 games in 2020-2021 and another 6 games in 2021-2022.
Cole Brady made the lion’s share of the appearances in the gray jerseys those two seasons by starting 7 of the 11 games the set was worn in 2020-2021. He also started 4 of the 6 games the set was worn in 2021-2022 while making a backup appearance on another date.
The most notable appearance for Brady in this jersey was his NCAA debut on November 15th, 2020 against No. 12 ranked Michigan in a 3-0 loss. Brady set the school record for saves by a freshman in his debut with 44 on 47 shots.
That is followed closely by his first NCAA win on November 28th, 2020 against No. 14 ranked Wisconsin.
Cole Brady’s gray “desert storm” game worn jersey has light wear with a few puck marks and some pilling.
The front of the sweater has the majority of the wear with a large pull above the pitchfork crest and two puck marks to the right of the crest. On the left hand side there is another puck mark.
There is a large puck on the left shoulder that is the most visible wear on the sweater.
The sleeves of Brady’s jersey are relatively clean with the left one featuring some pilling, one dark puck mark, and another lighter one. There is also a long loose thread or two in the numbers.
Flipping to the back there is a mark on the left shoulder in the dimples and another lighter white mark on the right hand shoulder that looks more like a burn than anything else.
