Jacob Semik played four seasons for the Arizona State Sun Devils hockey program from 2019 through 2023.
He was a freshman with the program during its best season in 2019-2020 which ended up being shortened by the pandemic. Semik was also there through the road-only pandemic schedule with the Big Ten and the final season at Oceanside.
The defender served as an alternate captain during his junior and senior seasons and was a steady piece of the Sun Devils defense all four years. Semik graduated from ASU after playing in 134 games (3 goals, 27 assists) which is the fifth-most games played in school history.
He was named the team’s Rookie of the Year (along with Jack Judson) in the 2019-2020 season.
More importantly, Jacob Semik was beloved by his teammates. The Michigan native won the team award for Best Teammate in both his junior and senior seasons.
These “Vegas Gold” jerseys were originally introduced to be worn in the 2022 U.S. Hockey Hall of Game in Las Vegas against North Dakota.
While they were dubbed Vegas gold, the “gold” is actually meant to be copper since Arizona is known as The Copper State. The fabric really stands out in person and these jerseys are absolutely gorgeous up close.
After being unveiled, the sweaters were a hit and quickly appeared again less than a month later in a matchup at Mullett Arena against Minnesota.
Their first two times on the ice saw the ASU program knocking off No. 6 ranked North Dakota and No. 2 ranked Minnesota which only added to the love for the new threads.
These Vegas Gold sweaters were worn on 10/29/22, 11/26/22, 1/27/23, 1/28/23, and 2/25/23. Jacob Semik wore this jersey in all five of those games while tallying two assists.
Semik’s jersey has decent wear for the five games it was worn in.
The right sleeve has several stick marks, board burns, and a couple of unrepaired holes. There is a stick mark or two on the left sleeve, as well.
It’s only a circumstance of a lack of photos from the right side in the latter games of the set that prevent this sweater from being matched to the right sleeve wear. There is a match to the placement of the #17 on the left sleeve in a closeup photo, though.
This jersey is relatively clean on the rest of the front and back.
There is an absolutely gorgeous alternate captain’s “A” sewn on the left breast and it is the first jersey I’ve posted that features head equipment manager Corby Antropik’s name on the game worn tag in the back hem.
All of the new jerseys introduced in 2022-2023 have Antropik’s name in place of former equipment manager Jon Laughner.
