Jack Judson verbally committed to Arizona State in 2016 and joined the Sun Devils hockey program in 2019.
When the Canadian defenseman initially committed to ASU the program was in its infancy and just heading into it’s first full season as an NCAA Division I program.
After Judson arrived in the desert, head coach Greg Powers commented on Judson’s early commitment.
“He just bought into wanting to come here and build a tradition,” Powers said. “The thrills and material stuff like big, nice and new arenas weren’t important to him. He wanted to stay on the West Coast and build something special and that’s the kind of kid he is. We’re thrilled to have him.”
Judson hit the ground running in Tempe playing in 34 games in his freshman season and 128 total in his four years at ASU.
The defenseman saved the best for last, tallying career highs in goals (5), assists (11), and points (16) in his senior season as the Sun Devils played their inaugural season at Mullett Arena.
Jack decided to transfer to Clarkson University after his senior season to play his graduate season for the Golden Knights.
These “Vegas Gold” jerseys were originally introduced to be worn in the 2022 U.S. Hockey Hall of Game in Las Vegas against North Dakota.
While they were dubbed Vegas gold, the “gold” is actually meant to be copper since Arizona is known as The Copper State. The fabric really stands out in person and these jerseys are absolutely gorgeous up close.
After being unveiled, the sweaters were a hit and quickly appeared again less than a month later in a matchup at Mullett Arena against Minnesota.
Their first two times on the ice saw the ASU program knocking off No. 6 ranked North Dakota and No. 2 ranked Minnesota which only added to the love for the new threads.
These Vegas Gold sweaters were worn on 10/29/22, 11/26/22, 1/27/23, 1/28/23, and 2/25/23. Jack Judson wore this sweater in all five games that the set was worn in and tallied 2 assists in those games.
Judson’s sweater has very solid wear for the five games with one repair, two unrepaired holes, and a variety of stick and puck marks. Despite the wear (and primarily due to the saturation in the photos) I’ve been unable to match it to anything beyond the picked/bunched gold thread on the left shoulder numbers.
The right sleeve has one repair, some stick/puck marks, and two unrepaired holes near the maroon band around the elbow. This sleeve also has a few faint stick marks and one pull near the shoulder and a mark in the shoulder numbers.
On the left sleeve there is one large stick/puck mark and another small mark or two, along with one small unrepaired cut. There are also stick marks on the upper portion of the left sleeve near the shoulder, as well as a large aberration or pick/pull in the thread on the first #2 on the left shoulder and two marks in the number itself.
Looking at the front, there are stick marks on the front left breast of the sweater and a loose thread or two in the DEVILS word mark.
The back is relatively clean with the exception of some discoloration on the nameplate and a pull below the back numbers.
These Vegas gold jerseys has a set tag declaring it as an Arizona State Authentic Game Jersey. The tags for the jerseys that entered the rotation last season feature head equipment manager Corby Antropik’s name in place of former equipment manager Jon Laughner.
