Sean Dhooghe transferred to Arizona State as one of the most unique players in college hockey.
The dynamic forward had starred at Wisconsin before an injury derailed his junior season. Looking for a fresh start, Dhooghe relocated to Tempe and spent two years in the desert with the Sun Devils.
What made the Illinois native unique wasn’t his skill of which there was plenty, it was the fact that he was a 5’3 kid playing in a sport that caters to guys who are six feet and up.
Despite his lack of size or perhaps in spite of it, Dhooghe carved out an excellent collegiate career at Wisconsin and ASU.
Sean Dhooghe scored 4 goals and 10 assists in 34 games in the 2021-2022 season. He became a fan favorite and joined the Sun Devils’ coaching staff as a graduate assistant after his fifth-year season.
ASU introduced these club retro jerseys on January 1st, 2022 to pay homage to the program’s ACHA roots and success. They immediately wore them in the series against Cornell on January 1st and 2nd.
The Sun Devils wore these jerseys in five games in 2022-2023 — 1/1/22 and 1/2/22 against Cornell, 2/4/22 against Alaska Fairbanks, and 3/11/22 and 3/12/22 against Long Island University. They went 4-1 in these sweaters.
Sean Dhooghe wore his retro set gamer in all five of those games and averaged a point per game with 1 goal and 4 assists, including a 3-assist effort on Senior Night to close out his college career and Oceanside Arena.
Dhooghe’s retro game worn has excellent wear for such a short lived set.
The left sleeve has quite a few burns and one small repair and some light stick/puck marks. On the right sleeve there are multiple repairs, burns, burn holes, and one unrepaired cut.
These jerseys had the ARIZONA STATE wordmark crests and the front of this one has a smattering of light stick/puck marks on both sides of the front near the hips. There isn’t much wear on the back beyond some small, faint stick/puck marks and loose threads in the number and nameplate. On the left shoulder where the maroon meets the fabric is a long white loose thread.
Arizona State’s club retros had special set tags that commemorated the players and coaches from the ACHA days, as well as the club team’s 2014 ACHA National Championship and 2015 NCAA debut as a Division I program.
