Reilly Smith was the focal point of a boneheaded trade for cap relief by the Florida Panthers to the newly formed Vegas Golden Knights.
The Panthers wanted to shed Smith’s 5-year, $25 million contract in the expansion draft.
They gifted Vegas both Smith and Jonathan Marchessault to do so, two players who have dominated with the Golden Knights and been fixtures in the franchise’s top six as part of the misfit line.
All Reilly Smith has done is average .73 points per game in his five seasons in the desert. He’s top five in franchise history in goals, assists, points, and games played.
Vegas wore their Gray Set 3 game worn jerseys in 10 games from February 20th, 2019 to March 29th, 2019.
Reilly Smith wore his in all 10 of those games and was highly productive, scoring 7 goals and 5 assists for 12 points in those 10 games.
His gray gamer has solid wear with a repair on the left sleeve, and two repairs on the right sleeve. There are also three large unrepaired holes on that right sleeve that appear to have been board burns that finally ripped in the final game of the set on March 23rd, 2019.
There is another burn or two in the left sleeve. The sleeves themselves have been tightened from the elbow down. The jersey features the alternate captain’s “A” on the chest and has both Vegas and MeiGray tagging in the hem.
Reilly Smith has been a dynamic part of the early years of Vegas hockey in the NHL.
With rumors swirling about the potential for Smith to be traded to accommodate the arrival (and salary) of Jack Eichel, it would be a sad parting for one of the original players who has contributed so much to their success.
