Tyler Gratton captained the Arizona State Sun Devils after transferring to ASU from Penn State for his graduate season.
Gratton scored 12 goals and added 6 assists in 36 games in maroon and gold.
He also helped the Sun Devils lift the Adirondack Winter Invitational trophy and the Desert Hockey Classic title in his one season in Tempe.
The former Nittany Lion was the second graduate transfer to step into the ASU locker room and earn the captain’s “C” for the Sun Devils, joining Colin Theisen who was captain in 2021-2022.
The Sun Devils brought the “Gold Heritage” jerseys back for one more season in 2023-2024. The gold jerseys, along with the gray and black jerseys, made a return to the ice after a year hiatus.
They wore the jerseys in five games throughout the season, including in the Adirondack Winter Invitational championship game against Cornell. ASU won that game and took home the trophy.
Tyler Gratton wore this jersey in all five of those games, scoring a goal and an assist. The goal scored on October 20th against Northern Michigan was his first goal as a Sun Devil.
This jersey is a special one for the collection because there is an image of Gratton, who was named the first star after scoring the game-winning goal on October 20th, giving a stick to my youngest son after taking his lap as the first star.
Gratton’s jersey doesn’t have a ton of wear but what is there is visible in a few photos.
The left sleeve has one large burn hole, a few smaller burns, and some stick/puck marks throughout. There is one repair, one very large stick mark, and another small stick/puck mark or two on the right sleeve.
This jersey shows a scuff/burn mark on the captain’s “C” with the rest of the front being clean.
The back mirrors that with only a few loose threads in the numbers.
One unique aspect of these 2023-2024 gold gamers is that these have set tags in them. It is the same general set tag as is found in most other sets that states the jersey is an Arizona State Authentic Game Jersey.
