Robert Mastrosimone transferred to Arizona State for his senior season and promptly tied the school record for points in a season with 42.
The former Detroit Red Wings second round pick scored 11 goals and 31 assists in his lone season with the Sun Devils, tying the school record set by Colin Theisen in the prior season. His 31 assists were also a school record.
Mastrosimone also had a flair for the dramatic. He scored three game-winning goals, including a huge overtime winner against No. 2 ranked Minnesota which sealed one of the program’s biggest wins in it’s young history.
After lighting it up in the desert in his senior year, Mastro decided to go pro and signed with the Toronto Marlies after the 2022-2023 season instead of returning to ASU.
The Arizona State Sun Devils introduced their “digi flame” jerseys prior to the end of 2022 and wore them in four games in the 2022-2023 season.
They were worn in the two game series against Boston College on December 30th and December 31st, 2022 and in the two game series against Lindenwood on February 17th and February 18th, 2023.
Robert Mastrosimone wore this jersey in all four of those games. He tallied 1 goal and 4 assists for 5 total points in this sweater.
Mastro’s jersey has light but visible wear with some faint stick marks near the bottom and top of the crest.
The left sleeve has a thick repair which is visible in two photos of Mastrosimone. There is also a board burn near the shoulder of the right sleeve in the digi flame sublimation.
These sweaters featured the sleeve numbers on the shoulders in lieu of shoulder patches. The change really enhances the look of the jersey.
The back of the sweater is clean with the exception of some loose threads. Here we also find the most interesting feature of the digi flame setup; sublimated numbers that simulate the digital flames shifting from maroon to yellow.
They really pop in person and the design has really grown on me after my initial impression.
These Digiflame jerseys have set tags identifying them as an ARIZONA STATE AUTHENTIC GAME JERSEY.
The notable difference between these sweaters (as well as the Vegas Gold and Barry Bonds styles) is that the tags feature the name of current head equipment manager Corby Antropik starting in 2022-2023.
